The worst part about this arc wasn't just that it was asspull move after asspull move, it was that it took so many chapters of asspulling to reach the conclusion we all knew was coming. Souji has been around since the beginning of the series, so he wasn't just going to lose to some walk-on character like Susano'o, and that makes this arc's length even more annoying. They didn't have any major arcs or character developments, nor were there any crazy backstories, just two guys who swung their swords their whole lives coming in to once again swing their swords, boosted with a healthy dose of bullshittery. Every fight before this was more concise and felt more fulfilling, but this was just "I swing sword good," "but I swing sword gooder" "but I swing sword gooderer" over and over until they were both near death and then they did it all over again.
Soji tapped into alternate timelines and jinchuriki powers, Susano'o created vacuum fields of death and swung a sword without holding a sword, and yet this was still one of the most underwhelming fights ever, and this came after the unfortunately short Leonidas vs Apollo, and that's saying something. I know the author wrote a Shinsengumi story so they're going to be biased towards these characters and feel the need to make them seem extra cool or whatever, but it just feels so lame to keep artificially raising the stakes over and over again for a swordsmanship dick measuring contest. Each character so far has had their own level of ridiculous techniques or power ups, but this entire fight has just been power up after secret technique after power up, and it managed to make what used to be one of my favorite series feel like such a slog to read.
