I agree, Shy is noble but... I don't think you can take 1 or 2 more attacks, the gap is simply too wide apparently

Sorry... This is a good series, but I hate the cliche of all goody-two-shoes cringe protagonist who wants to save everyone no matter what they did simply because that's what a protagonist should do. And always try to solve everything with the power of friendship, lollipops and rainbows.

That's why I much rather anti-heroes. Alucard from Hellsing, Ruvi from Black Lagoon, Spike from Cowboy Bebop, Levi Archman from Attack on Titan, etc. They are much better and have way more dept.

Being edgy doesn't make a hero better or deeper. And if you think killing a person whose mind and heart are being dominated by an evil force is somehow a good thing, then I am proud to disagree with you.

I admire Shy's courage here but I don't see what approach she has physically or emotionally to get through.

@GLFanatic What we're you expecting when you started reading this? From the start, this series has been about Shy slowly getting stronger and more confident to become the true hero she wants to be. Her moral code is set from the start and she's actively fought to prove herself in face of those who told her she was too naive. It'd be wildly out of character for her to go "fuck it, let her die" in this situation.

Edginess for the sake of edginess is rarely a good thing and it doesn't fit this series. They'll probably be a fine where shy needs to make a tough decision and face abandoning her morals for a greater good. That time isn't now.

Saying Shy has no depth because she's set in her morals is objectively false unless you haven't actually read any of the chapters up until now. She's always facing some sort of internal or interpersonal struggle but she shines through. It's a common character type yes, but not one without depth. And it certainly isn't cringe.

I never said Shy never had dept. If you had the tiniest ability of interpretation in a simple.text you'd have realized that. I expressed my opinion of how those characters I listed have MORE dept than you usual friendly MC. Read their stories, their past, their motivations, the motives behind why they became what they are now and see how they behave in a reality where not everything is black and white and comming to terms with the questionable actions they had to do due circustances and yet believe in some degree of justice.

I said this séries was good and I also agree that a mercilles Shy wouldn't make sense, but my point was that simply saying "Oh, I gonna save everyone because of the kindness of my heart" is a very simple and linear character mentality in a protagonist. You can't save everyone. Sometimes there are people beyond redemption (Not necessarily the villains in this story) and sparing them only gives a sense of injustice.

You said "edginess for the sake of edginess"? I say that sparing everyone no matter.what atrocities they commit is not mercy, is not forgiveness... Is glorified impunity. And you said is rarely a good thing? Please. Take.the examples I already gave you. All of them extremely successful and every one of those characters is a fan favorite. How about God of War? How about GTA V? (The game that selled the most in history). How about Deadpool and The Punisher? I think being edgy and with dept actually works very well.

Allow me to give you the definition of anti-hero:

"An antihero or antiheroine is a character in a story who lacks conventional heroic qualities and attributes such as idealism, courage, and morality. Although antiheroes may sometimes perform actions that are morally correct, it is not always for the right reasons, often acting out of self-interest or in ways that defy conventional ethical codes."

Even thought Levi is courageous, there are several moments where he didn't follow ethical codes. Like beating the shit out of Eren, killing without hesitation or remorse humans included, torturing, (what he did to Zeke on their second fight), not hesitating in killing former companions after they were transformed into Titans, etc. So he's morality ambiguous, and that actually works great for his character. He'd do whatever it takes in the fight against the Titans and to protect his homeland.

He sure as hell is not your convencional hero.
