In my experience, a rodent biting you might be too dumb to let go on its own and try to escape during the appropriate window of surprise like here. One of my hamsters was a little shit and she'd just latch on to a finger and stay there if you didn't get her off on your own. On the other hand (and with the literal other hand), if you can hold out against the pain while it's there it does make it easy enough to keep them out of the way of whatever you're trying to do in their cage like change out the food in the bowl. I once let her hang off of my finger for a minute or two so I could perform a checkup on her. You know, make sure the nails aren't too long and stuff like that. Pretty decent idea gained about the state of her teeth like that too I suppose.
