Celestria teased apart the clue again that it's Leon who assumed the Dark Lord is the grave threat, the goddess didn't. As it's being highlighted by the Smart character in the cast, I'm now more sure Leon is wrong. Behind the Dark Lord is something worse. This Dark Lord is a force of nature in the human myths at least. Yet monsters we've seen so far that feed into it are not evil, only wildlife and people. Monster grudge accumulation doesn't make sense so far, when monsters are mostly a megafauna-based ecology; not evil. Maybe a bit cursed if they're extra aggressive to humans, but not evil. There's probably some magic angle to it, but if such magic exists it still doesn't need to be stuck on a genocidal warlord acting on animal logic. No way does his happy series treat monsters as forever doomed to cyclical rampages.

And it's a lot funnier to stick with sympathy for the monsters all the way. They deserve better than blitz brainwashing. Near-sapient ones are still food, but they're not evil meat.

In a series with Jelly Aspic, slime? I'd been expecting Lumir was connected to some sacred force, maybe not the goddess, but dammit, inverting that for a not-actually-evil Dark Lord works. Or competition for Dark Lord's power.

Jelly herself being a monster kinda seals the deal for me on "the Dark Lord" not being some malevolent sapient monster entity bent on the destruction of everything. Humans themselves seem to be the actual antagonists thus far, at least for the most part; so that being the case for the Big Bad also doesn't feel far-fetched to me.
Hell...it could end up involving the return/resurrection/reanimation of OF Jelly herself. Maybe "the Calamity" is that she comes back, repossesses her body but with hits supercharged status by virtue of "Goddess-blessed Jelly Aspic, Slime", and proceeds to go on an apocalyptic rampage wherein SlimeJelly needs to be saved by all her newfound friends and allies and then together they take down OG Jelly to save everything.

I don't think it'll be that simple/predictable as it's just the first thing I thought of, but the continuing subversion of "monsters aren't actually the monsters" feels like it'll factor into whatever's going on with the End Game Boss being teased more and more of late.

Thank you for the translation!

Jelly imagining herself going on a rampage was the cutest thing ever! :)

If Lumir turns out to be the Dark Lord, Im gonna cry... :notlikethis:
Probably going to turn out to be a leader of good monsters trying to combat the Dark Lord's influence over all monsters.

I figure the previous Jelly was the Dark Lord reincarnated but now she's in something else that's probably behind the whole faction trying to kill the saints.

But then again Lumir appears in the first chapter as well as both Jellies.... so it's possible.

Berger feels like endgame Dark Lord. If not the current one, the replacement. Dark Lord monster control powers + Truly cares for his beasts + Doesn't fit with humans in countries we know of + Reformed by the power of friendship. And with his past of being slandered as "dark lord's minion" ... I don't think he'll keep that role. Bonus name meanings, (french) berger derives from "shepherd", which isn't bad for a benign leader.

Original recipe Jelly has got to be part of the calamity. Hopefully her evil studies are enough to cause last-act JRPG weirdness. Her soul must be screwed up. Even worse if she was always a summoning accident and not the body's original soul.

Lumir can throw all of my guesses off. She seemingly set up Jelly to benefit the goddess (and monsters?), yet was surprised Jelly fit the body with very little stiffness. Lumir doesn't seem like a wild goddess or godslime or Dark general, more of a slime seer.

I wait for the day, where jelly go to a town, excited to try out the local cuisine, but only to be surprised that slimes are a delicacy there.

For the fist time, she might loose her appetite and freak out everyone around her.
