I remember it being a Sci-Fi manga, award-winning, set in spaceship. The captain is a whale and the work is somewhat philosophical. The perspective is focalized around a female (?) member of the crew. The author didn't have any other works. And I'm going somewhere out on a limb here but I really enjoyed this one-shot. It's probably one of the best I've ever read, so hoping someone could help me find it but it is really niche, so thanks in advance for any effort at all.

I couldn't find it using mangadex's tag searching system so perhaps it has been removed from mangadex?

Is it Like a Laika? I couldn't find it on MangaDex either.

I knew I must've read it on here, there's even a chapter discussion, but the title page has been removed :thonk:
Y'know it's fascinating to me how there are these manga artists who put out amazing works of art, and they must have day jobs because they just vanish and never create comics ever again. Like this Yamazaki Ren fellow disappeared after authoring Like a Laika, and it's been a decade and a half. Someone that talented can't just pop out of nowhere right? Are they a professional manga assistant? Do they make doujins? Genuinely incredibly intriguing.

Also the whole part about the robot explaining that artificial superintelligence (ASI) doesn't have any motivation to destroy or reign over humanity aligns so well with our current reality and the AI debate. There's an implicit paradox that many AI doomers gloss over. For one, destroying humanity has no benefit for an AI, so doomers often start with the (movie inspired, delirium infused) scenario that the AI would cause irreparable harm out of good will, believing that erasing humankind is the best thing for humanity. But the conflict is that in this scenario, annihilating humanity is already labeled as the incorrect/bad move, and if the AI were truly superintelligent, it wouldn't make a wrong move.

Sorry for the yap, and thanks again!
