Something like an "Engrish" language option

Aside from being easy to abuse, it's also not entirely clear when English becomes "Engrish". There are many degrees between a text that would make an English professor cry tears of joy and a text that is nearly unintelligible. I've seen many translations (although mostly in VTubers translation videos in recent memory) that were fine overall, but had some odd grammar and questionable word choices here and there.

Except for particularly glaring cases, it's too subjective to be practical.

@Lobuttomize Unfortunately, I would ahve to spend time looking through the recent updates to find a specific answer (and with like 500 active items on my list, can take more time than I can afford on it right now😳), but there was one recently that does just that. In it's case, you have the "snipe" group getting hit by complaints, then the regular group popped there which everyone said was much more readable. Personally, the "snipe" group did fine, as it was perfectly readable to me, maybe an error or so in grammar, but nothing that would have been cared about by a casual reader. Honestly, I feel it is just some self-entitled readers who demand the best even though they are reading material for free. But, in the end, that is just my opinion.

Let’s make this simple. Read from who you like and support who you want. I read all the available translations and continue to read whoever started the translation. But I still write to the sniper thanking them for giving me my fix. Since I’m in the dark on finding a good place to read where I live. So it’s buying it from Amazon, or reading and supporting translators here

what if it was a "machine translation" option instead of an "Engrish" one...? I think it has more of an "unreadable" implication and would be a really serious accusation even in a sniper war, so that it may be less prone to abuse. It can also be applied to other languages than English (it's not like only English translations can be unreadable...).

@Nako i could see the MTL if it would be made so it could only be set by the group uploading. I've seen in the comments where the group being "sniped" have claimed MTL and when I read it I thought if this is MTL do more, its good, its quicker. I very much doubt if the were MTL though. If any thing I have seen a lot of people add in the comments that they are doing mtl and just trying to make a manga available.

@Tigero8504 do like they do with the US flag, when there is trouble fly it upside down. Should work with the Union Jack flag. 😂

Though I get the joke suggestion, that would make it very hard to tell the stripe orientation without zooming in.
It works better in real life because the physical flag is obviously larger.

@justforthelulz, I get what you mean, but I think it being hard to tell makes it better. Going on the other comments in this thread, people are making the argument that it's hard to exactly distinguish what chapters could be considered either English or "Engrish". With the flag like this, it kind of carries on that idea and turns it into a joke - that it's so poorly categorized that they are both very difficult to distinguish from each other, only to confuse users.

Anyway, I only posted that as a joke. I don't want to start some long chain of essays explaining why it should be one way or the other.

@Tigero8504 how about using the ConLang flag ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Constructed_language )? Or one of those "文 A" translation icons (like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine_translation#/media/File:%C3%86toms_-_Translation.svg) xD

(though, I like the Union Jack idea xDDD)

@Nako, the conlang recommendation is also a great choice. I never even knew it existed and found it pretty funny. Maybe with this groups can create new languages and use the flag for the chapters they upload to make for some laughs - just something to think about, I guess.

Could just use the American flag.

Seriously though, an entire separate language options is absolutely not happening. At best we coud be talking about some kind of feature additions to the actual groups. The first thing that pops to mind would be user-voted tags, maybe. Thinking of something like Good Translation/Editing, Machine Translation, Frequent Uploader or stuff like that. I would prefer to avoid tags that are actually negative and I don't think I would bind any actual automatic filtering functionality to the tags because of how exploitable that would be.

I don't know. The more I think about it, the more it just feels like the problem is entirely solved by blocking groups whose output you don't like.
