The formation that Tian GongSui was creating does have a name but it doesn't mean too much, and it translates really badly into english. Something like 'big dipper evil-slaying' or 'heavenly granges and earthly sha'.

Regarding Cang Wuzi's final few words, they are quite vague. It's unlike his other vague dialogue however as this time they're not some chinese idiom. I do think I translated it accurately so you can try and interpret his meaning as you like.

Well, damn. Meditation has given him some moxie to pull that off. Found a purpose, and went all in. Really didn't want to like the old man, but I've got to respect him now.

Cang Wuzi!! i'm sorry for doubting you 😭

@Edjan yeah i think so. it's kind of unclear because he speaks so ambiguously but it sounds like he wondered why cataclysms didn't exist in the past (he's been looking at scrolls for years and years). it seems that many spiritual beings coexisted with mortals instead of 'ascending'? maybe this is all caused by certain cultivators hoarding qi and creating imbalance?

edit: rereading it and it doesn't seem like he's SUPER sure what causes the cataclysm, that's why he told Gongsui he hopes they can figure it out with this delay. but earlier, he did talk about his theory: that the threshold that causes and ends cataclysms has to do with the "amount of qi per individual" so it feels like that's why he decided to kill the Fairy cultivator and himself to demonstrate.

Thought I'll clear up some things:

Heavenly Cataclysms are thought to occur since the beginning of the world since they have been happening periodically and since its been so long, no one really knows when it first started. However Cang Wuzi is doubting if Heavenly Cataclysms actually did occur in ancient times since there were so many powerful late-stage cultivators across all the races that seemed to co-exist. There shouldn't have been enough spiritual qi if heavenly cataclysms did occur.

His question regarding higher-stage cultivators is just why are there no records of them at all.

Yes, he killed the other cultivator and himself both postpone the heavenly cataclysm and demonstrate his own theories. Also note that the 'Proxy of heaven' group currently does wish to kill a lot of mortals to overcome the heavenly cataclysm. Cang Wuzi probably chose Chong Ming because he disagreed with this ideology (and possibly also to help his disciples). He is the original leader, however he's being in seclusion for a long time and now the group has changed their purpose to be a bit more dangerous. Some of the original 'Proxy of heaven' members are likely pretty chill, e.g. the Kunlun sect leader.
