This feels like one of those cases where fictional characters are stable in a way that real people aren't.
What I mean is, my impression of people who come up with a bunch of ridiculous rules that their partner has to follow is that following the rules doesn't actually work.
Like the situation MC had going, where the rules were such that he could actually know what they were and following them was possible and his wife apparently didn't get upset for more than a decade because he was following them, that ends up being impossible in real life.
Because in real life whatever drove the other person to make the rules in the first place also drives them to do shit like make even more rules, or not tell you what the rules are, or make rules that are impossible to follow.
Such that MC's situation ends up being an impossible (not even good) dream, because no matter how hard you try to follow the rules they're still getting mad at you a lot.
