As a reader, more groups scanlating a series means if the other group drops it bc of personal/real life reasons, there is still another group we can hold on to.

It’s fine if you only wanna read from one group. No need to snark when we’re getting this for free. If some uploads are delayed from another group, I just take it as an additional boost to the series so it gets sent to the top and more people can see it 🤷‍♀️

Tbh, I prefer the Church of Potato translation. It has more "oomph" (like, the way they make Kitagawa speak gyaru-talk) and the little additions, like "angy" instead of "mrrgh" fit well with the tone of the interactions. And they do all the SFXs.

Nothing really wrong with Tonikaku's, but I find it a notch lower in quality and less entertaining.

Personal preference and all that...

I usually - but not always - slightly prefer the potetto version, but I'm always grateful that both groups work so hard on it and dislike the bad mouthing on all sides.

I'm reminded of my favourite manga where the original group eventually dropped out after falling behind, so thank you both groups from me!

Thanks for the chapter!

For this manga only I honestly don't mind reading twice. Heck, marin is just too adorable.

Also, idk how many scanlators out there just drops a manga and then that manga never gets an update. Then the manga doesn't get released in my country, I have to go to the other websites, and maybe read with ads of twerking women all over the webpage, closing pop up ads here and there, if I ever manage to find any updates of the manga i'm looking for. Bruh...

I'm really glad this manga have two scanlators. They're doing their best, so it's better to just shut your yapping and move on.

That isn't "gyaru talk" though, they make her sound way more western zoomer-ish, which is bad. That's full blown localization instead of translation. It's a pitfall a lot of localizers do because "meh, close enough!" is their approach to "translation", so they make all gyaru (and high school aged kids in general) just use a ton of western lingo and slang. It's very jarring, considering the characters are Japanese.

How would you know how a Japanese gyaru talks? Are you Japanese? FYI, a "normal" Japanese person finds the way gyaru talk jarring...

Japanese people are very diverse in the way they talk, surprisingly.

I think the way they do it for Kitagawa only is fine. The others characters talk normally.

That's a whole lot of nothing and dodging.

Because translation isn't always an exact science, I appreciate the different ways this manga's been translated. For example, the potato people use a lot more of the mannerisms and expressions I'd expect from kids that age these days, while the original group is less casual in comparison.

There are some benefits to the less casual version, in that the slang of today often becomes the cringe of tomorrow.
Both are just as valid, so why not just appreciate the differences?
Personally waiting for the day people start extending this grace to official western releases in earnest. As someone who consumes those along with scanlations, they're just as good, if not better, than scanlations in general. Especially these days. I don't let chronically online weebs fool me into thinking otherwise.

You're the one dodging the question here.
Nope, all that post did was just repeat what I said is their mentality. The "meh, close enough" is a disservice to the work. If you want to make Japanese characters sound like brainrotted tiktok obsesssed American teens because "muh equivalence", be my guest, but it's still bad and that's just objective fact. Can't even begin to imagine implying that gyaru are nearly as bad as that. Of course, disregarding the fallacious reasoning in the post to begin with.

For real though, why are there 2 groups scanlating this?
I don't really see the logic in this constant double upload
I prefer Tonikaku's translation. Although for this chapter I actually did read Church of Potteto after about a week of no Tonikaku release. I thought they died or something. I'm glad that's not the case.
