I want to start by saying I agree with you. Gojo has genuine mental health issues that he's only just recently started to come to terms with.I mean ive read a ton of manga with wimpy protags. We have had the privilege as readers to see him go through a shit ton of severe anxiety attacks in private. I don't see it as being the typical trope of wimpy japanese student. He has some real issues.
I think the problem here is that despite the characters in Sono Bisque Doll being so incredibly rounded and well-written, the reading of the character interactions still reaches the same place as the wet bread characters we usually see in lesser romcom stories. Regardless that Gojo has good reason for it, it's ultimately still the same tropes being used in the same way.
