I'm actually kind of creeped out by the kind of people who would interpret this boy as some sort of "spineless bitch," when I'm reading about a very different person. He is sensitive and kind, devoted and talented in his craft, non-judgmental, and has already shown such qualities through his actions to a girl who clearly gets it. And yes, he's socially awkward, with a social trauma from when he was even younger than the sensitive 15 years old that he is. And she also gets it and doesn't hold it against him.

I mean what do you people want him to do, push the girl down the moment he's got a chance, ignore what she wants, and get fast-tracked into the supreme court?

@Kiraidesu Lol... people are dumb. It's a 15-year-old kid, I'm pretty sure a handful of the people crying about how "spineless" the MC is were awkward as hell at 15. I know for sure I was, in fact, I'm glad the author portrayed him the way they did. It's more realistic and believable, as high school is an important part of anyone's life in regards to figuring themselves out, where they want to belong, and the people they want to be around. Hell, most don't even go through this until university/college.
