It's all fun and games until this over-worked, underpaid, half-starved, and now smaller guard force has to fight off another demon invasion.
Why don't a whole bunch of guards just quit? He's fucking with their pay, and with their food. That's not exactly actions that keep morale up. Consider this: a certain guard is barely able to keep up with all of this excess training, then his rations get cut, sapping his energy, and all of his friends on his squad get fired. There isn't much keeping that guard on the force any more. It's not like the economy is so bad that none of them can find jobs. If that were true then they wouldn't have such a hard time recruiting more guards.
