Nah it’s actually a some what based in reality concept, our minds are more based in perception and our senses than what you might think. There’s several experiments performed by neuroscientists that demonstrate that it’s possible to trick the brain into seeing or feeling signals that aren’t there. In this case I’m the illusion magic is essentially imposing the same tricks to the brain and since the magic has to be applied by focusing mentally if he literally cannot perceive the invisible guy at all he can’t cast the magic. It’s actually a really interesting way to use illusion/trickery powers in a story I think it’s pretty neat.
