Great, even more consolidation around a few giants in the manga/anime industry. Even for the video game side, it won't be good for the players given how Sony is accumulating very big mistakes.

Sony took over A-1 studios, and the conditions are revealed to be a sweatshop. This was 10 years ago.

Having mulled this over some, this seems like a very typical Japanese vertical integration move - Sony would potentially get control of licensed properties from the initial publication through production of adaptations/derivatives in other media to distribution and localization. Not thrilled by it, but not at all surprised either.

Japan has, last I checked, notoriously poor anti-trust legislation. Like, "makes the USA look like a control economy" levels of laissez-faire. I wouldn't hold my breath.
