When you're awkwardly forced in a situation where you're basically cursed to a slow and agonizing death for the sake of others, I can kind of see why she would massively break down under the stress of it all. Especially when besides the kids, the villagers clearly don't care for her condition, just their own. It really brings to mind the idea that the soul senders are effectively sentenced to inevitably die and the world takes them for granted.
