I still can't get behind the fact that Taiga able to communicate in sentence with the...........native.

This this chapter is pretty cool usage of primitive technology (is that the right word?)

And if one man can take down a thousand pound monster... Then a tribe can take down a few tons of mammoth.
Probably going to need bigger spears, though.

Honestly, I've been thinking that a lot more time than we realize has been passing. Hell. Have you seen Taiga's abs, recently? That takes months of hard work. He was a normal Japanese student, and he sure as hell didn't have those at the beginning.
He still speaks with them in a very halting manner, most of the time. So he isn't completely fluent. But if I'm right about it being months, that's plenty of time to begin learning the language. Honestly, its the other students who seem too slow, at this point.
Another example would be the wolf. It takes a good half year to get even close to adult size. And won't reach full sexual maturity until a year or so old. Admittedly, that's present day animals. So it may have been different back then. But we haven't been told any different so far.

Yea, quite a bit more time has passed, as it does take time to learn new languages, especially when the two cultures are so radically different. You'd be surprised though, as once two people start trying to communicate, certain basic ideas can be expressed fairly quickly, and then you build on it from there, much as how he was learning from her.

As for the abs, he has been pretty physically active (not to mention a radically different diet) -not to mention he wasn't in what you would consider bad shape, merely average at worst) from the start they entered this world, so surprisingly, he could have developed those abs in just a few short months, tops. If he had been obese, or whatnot, then it would have taken more time just due to how hard it would be to adapt his body to the new environment.

@DrDuckling I think you'd be surprised by how much you could learn in that situation. If anything, Taiga's progress is slower than I would imagine. He's got nothing but time and opportunity to learn, and he's clearly keen to. Also, the language at that point in our history was probably pretty basic. Considering the simplicity of their world and lifestyle, they just didn't need to have a very complex language back then.

Also, called it on the whaling in the last chapter. If we could hunt whales, we could hunt mammoths.

Why did you repeat 'months'? I had already said that about his current physique.

Honestly, I was beginning to think that more time was passing than it seemed way back when Taiga and Tiari were traveling together. With as hyper realistic as this author seems to attempt to make his stories, Taiga's wounds and a few other details felt odd.

@Riger For some reason, your post is sounding like you didn't get that I was agreeing with you.

Hrm, dont know if that will work since whale hunting relies on tiring out the whale while preventing it from diving. Whales would drag the boats around for miles. At least during colonial days. Getting dragged by a mammoth would kill a guy. U cant use trees to tye it since those beast would stomp them flat.
