This looks interesting, but I can't see how this arc won't devolve into battle-after-battle chapters. Don't get me wrong--i love the action. But I think frieren works best when they sprinkle in those introspective/philosophical moments and character interactions in between the battles like in the El Dorado arc. Hoping the author takes that route again because that's where Frieren is at its objective BEST. Anyone else feel the same?

Also, a bit funny to see all the words using åäö in those weird ways we never actually would :p Like "löwe" is pronounced like "love" with funky pronunciation (and like "löv" aka leaf), and a swedish dev did make a game called "löve", but we don't really tend to use "w" in that way.
A lot of it feels like something meant to seem german, but with swedish-specific letters. Continuously throws me off :p

ps: how do you even specify in jp that you want it to be pronounced like å, ä or ö?
If you post a comment like this you should probably specify beforehand that you´re Swedish, cause as a German at first I thought you're just spreading misinformation for some reason. Löwe is just the German word for lion, so there aren't any embellishments with "swedish-specific" letters (Especially since you also use Ü, Ö and Ä in German).

I don't know Japanese so I can't answer your question with certainty but I think that if you want to write a "western" name in Japanese you use Hiragana to spell the name phonetically and the reader has to guess at the spelling, obviously that's easier if you know that the original name is German or English.

She wouldn't be the only one concerned about something ridiculous. It's kind of common for magicians.

Sure, punch her with your hair. Would work.

"Please act serious."
Frieren acts in strange ways, especially when she's serious. Also, cute ears.

"It must be thrilling to see tons of unusual magic."
Speaking for herself. That's what she lives for. Especially if it's found in a mimic.

Aww, she did share the blanket once Frieren got up. Well, she tried before too.

Some of these names are a bit weird.

Of course everything is a distraction, even if it seems like she's just enjoying herself.

Oh no, half of the enemy is cute waifus. How many dead waifus will we have by the end of this arc?
On the plus side, even if they die, you've had a cute waifu in the manga for a little bit. Enjoy the time you've got left.

When did we see an 'å'?

Though these letters aren't specific to Swedish language, since they also exist in other Nordic languages, and sometimes other Germanic languages. Overall, I'm getting a more German vibe, especially since we have Übel, and 'ü' is not a Nordic letter, but a German one.

And in Swedish, 'w' is often used as a fancy 'v'. The English 'w' sound doesn't exist natively in Swedish. And in cases with the name "Love", it can be written like "Lowe" to make it less confusing for English speakers, even if the 'e' would still probably be pronounced the wrong way.

Source: I'm Swedish.

If the Empire is this strong with so assassin-mages running around, then why didn't they kill the demon lord on their own instead of relying on Himmel and his party? As noted in the previous arc, they already had expert killer mages running around for decades, which you wouldn't be able to gather/train in just one generation.

My guess is because they do not want a peaceful era, and is currently working towards another war.

They are hyping them up way too much. I still can't take human enemies seriously after the prime demons though considering how truely menacing they were and you felt the dread specially during time travel arc.

Of course it’s not surprising that once prospers man will try to kill and gain dominance over each other.
In that aspect, the more straightforward (yet murderous) demons are…. pure.

Like you have gained some semblance of peace, why not just keep it peaceful, ugh humans.

Who said they were "relying" on Himmel and his party? We've yet to see anything to suggest that the Empire even WANTED the demon king to be defeated, or even any sort of acknowledgement of the Hero Party's success from the Empire directly. Sure the citizens of the Empire are happy with this new development, but what about the Empire itself? There's clearly some conflict of interest. As someone else mentioned above, they most likely don't want a peaceful era for whatever reason that goes against their interests.

All those shadow warriors with name and their role... you might as well change their role to "DEAD", "DECEASED", or "KIA" knowing the fact that they're all after Frieren co. :kek:
Why? Only one of them almost solo'ed her party and practically let them live (one at retirement age mind you). From what we've seen so far, a more younger one can solo everyone in the capital. Just last chapter psycho and glasses got toyed with by one with zero effort as well.

Why sacrifice die-hard government loyalist when you can potentially sacrifice powerful magic users who can't be controlled

Just a side note, if the mangaka decides to kill off Serie via means of these shadow glowies, I'm going to be hella pissed

Where does the Empire get enough time to play conspiracy and secret agent all over the damn place. Are they composed of 10% assassins or something?
