I wonder what reasons they have for trying to kill the great mages. Especially after all they've done for humanity...

Supposedly that great mage caused a great upheaval in the southern countries, causing the civil war that killed Fern's family. But it isn't like we have gotten a good source for what actually went down. Personally I think it is part of Schlacht's plan for demons to survive, which the southern hero would have needed to agree to or he wouldn't have shown up to a fight where he knew he would die in I would guess. Would also be interesting that the first ever compromise between a demon and human didn't come from a demon who cared about humanity but rather the only demon who cared about demons.

Not to say she is childlike, but the way she denied Frieren her 1st class ranking was petty, and was a demonstration of exactly that - untempered emotions and little impulse control.

They're direct student's /subordinates who take instruction / missions from Serie, which Frieren has no intention of doing

My take on this is different.
I think Serie recognize that Frieren is not following her magic philosophy. It would make no sense for her to accept Frieren in her organisation. Neither of them want to work together, but they do not plan to hinder each other lives either. And Frieren only accept to participate to ease Fern concerns. Frieren never really expect to pass, I even think she is somewhat relieved that she did not.
For the 1000 years ban, it is petty. But it is also a joke. The last time they talk to each other was a millennia ago and they do not really miss each other anyway.
When they departed from Kraft, he said "see you in a few centuries". Elfes time is very different.

I guess they are afraid because of how powerful they are. Serie concealing her mana probably has more mana than any human could ever have in their entire lifetime. This is probably frightening for them. The great mages are basically nuclear weapons and they are not on the side of the empire.

I don't think the party has ever killed any human yet. Maybe it's a crime or maybe they think humans are not beyond redemption. Or the party is just you know, nazi on demonkind only.

They are a threat to Frieren. In fact, Frieren would be dead if Stark didn't take the arrow in her place.

They are a threat because they aren't mages. They don't use mana. They can no be detected by mana detection. The archer couldn't be detected and the arrow he fired couldn't be detected either. Their only weak point was the nun because she uses magic. But all in all, they are a real thread, even for Frieren.
