Military fortress made in wartime, used by Count Army
Lol

Also, a bit sad the treasury didn't contain something like "an original statue of the hero" that he first thought was useless as didn't look like some random middle-aged man. And maybe even had some statue or drawing of frieren (&co) next to it. Giving her the chance to mention how she was part of the hero party, that that is how they looked like, and that she knew his ancestors and their lineage always went shirtless.

I don't think Frieren cares on getting grimoire as fast or as easy as possible.
she just enjoy her time traveling with simple goal of finding magic no matter how insignificant it is.
Most of the time the money issue is simply on day to day living needs and she didn't care much for having "more".

It also just occured to me a sum that's enough for a human to retire on is NOT enough with elven life spans, so no wonder she's not interested in immediate riches, she'll use it all up eventually!
Looks like they're more of a passive income/investment type of race, but that's unheard of in the "Middle Ages", especially with demons and monsters existing.
Just something crazy to think about.
If I recall, Frieren was rewarded quite a lot when the Hero party killed the Demon King. But by the time the present story began, that would've been decades already. And unlike everyone else, she basically squandered on her wealth instead of reinvesting or working on it to grow.
Remember that there were no ways to invest money for profit in the middle ages, the modern financial system did not exist. Wealth burned down to owning land, to gather taxes from the inhabitants, road tolls, mining profits, etc. The primary source of income was agriculture. There was essentially no way to invest without being tied down - there were no companies in the modern sense to invest into companies, colonial companies were the high-risk high-reward kind of deal, and even if you became a coowner of some venture, you were expected to participate in its running, or at least throw your political weight behind it.
Of course it can't work for a vagabond like Frieren.

Hm, no stripped Stark :angery:
Fern in shambles.

he still has some trauma from almost getting beheaded by the noble from Aura's arc (Graf Granat, i think?)
And even then Graf later said it was a lie to get him to leave and not get involved with demons.

True. Doubt she cares enough to spend the time, however "minuscule" it is to her, to learn about investing and business anyway.
other than inn stays and prepped meals at her 'level of knowledge', i'm sure she could be like "instant grow potatoes" for a day and cook them herself or other stuff, since she was on her own for a while before taking in her apprentice and stark

Or even, "oh an elf is rare to see, tell us stories and we'll treat you to dinner"

Considering she was able to 'cry 3 days straight' without throwing a tantrum, i'm sure if she wasn't nagged to get outta bed and get dressed/keep going and such, she prolly could just preserve energy to where she'd only need to eat like, once a month maybe

isn't the point of the grimoires that she collects is that they're rare or that the spells are so super niche/specific/'useless' to the average mage to where shopkeepers wouldn't normally stock it? Like, wasn't one of them like "it changes vanilla ice cream to chocolate" which might be useful for chefs occasionally but still
From sweet grapes to sour ones because Eisen likes sour grapes. Also, what good is a spell to make shaved ice in a region where it is normally winter year-round? Such a spell wouldn’t likely be stocked in the Northern territories.

I suppose we will meet Count Cavalerie and the Marquis de Artillerie if this keeps up.

She was not the one who created an "inexhaustible number of spells", she developed the theories upon which humanity used to discover an inexhaustible amount of spells... I see people getting confused with that fact.
You're right. I didn't really word that properly :nyoron:

yes, but Stark also didn't hear that because he was passed out of fear from seeing Graf's servant entering the room holding a big axe (that was used to chop woods) :dogkek: that scene was so funny both in manga and anime

I have a feeling these "useless" spells she wants to find are rare in spell shops on account of them not being useful enough to sell.
other than literal coins, which might change how they look /are produced 3 centuries from now, "save our village and you can eat/stay as long as you like" would be a better deal considering how powerful she is (considering if she was more 'malicious' she could've easily conquered cities by now)
