I love the magic mechanics we see coming up as part of the world building. Here in particular we see a very classic one that's underused in modern works, wherein true risk/sacrifice on the part of the caster can great enhance a magic's power. It's like the traditional Irish folklore of geas, where curse and gift are intertwined. Cú Chulainn for example gained strength by taking on various geas, but in turn was partly brought to his death by conflicts between multiple ones. It makes for another good fictional driver in keeping a story interesting since it means super natural power has risk and rules associated with it, beyond just straight up power level vs power level.

I have the feeling that Frieren's mana pool is contradictory, where her mana just goes up during battle so this long battle is actually going to end up with her being at her strongest
