@Harvester That line wasn't about Flamme being able to manipulate her as much as it was Flamme understanding Frieren to the point that she would know what she would do a millennium after her death. I feel like at this point the only demon that would have been old enough to stand a chance against Frieren was probably the Demon King, and he's (supposedly) dead, so unless he makes a comeback...

Why doesn't she just kill aura though? She has that much mana and demon killing magic, it should be easy

@Harvester Probably most of the older demons already got offed when they were fighting the demon king, I mean, anyone who was strong enough to stand up to the hero party probably did stand up to the hero party, mostly.

... Where's the kaboom?
I was expecting a earth-shattering kaboom.
*sighs*
Or at least something more than just a "kill yourself" and a teary eyed demon

What the heck, 400+ comments?!
Little(?) Frieren is so cute. She's still cute, though. Lolibaba will always be cute.

So, she was around 900y.o when she joined the hero party. And I believe she didn't even use all her power back then.

As I understand it, mana capacity is mostly determined by the amount of time you spend training it. Whether you're a demon or a human, there's no magic bullet that allows an individual to increase their mana faster than their peers. The concept of a young upstart that overtakes his older peers simply doesn't exist. To put it simply, the amount of mana that one has doesn't lie in regards to how long they have trained their magic and so it is a fairly stable way of determining one's status. When considering that demons train their magic nearly their entire lives, their mana is essentially a representation of their age and that does mean that the position is essentially static. It is unknown whether demons die of natural causes, but it doesn't appear to be the case. At the very least, they an have extremely long lifespan.

Demons have shown that they are willing to suppress their mana to ambush others. They simply don't suppress their mana continuously because there is no value in doing that. The only reason Frieren does so is specifically because she hunts demons and she wants them to underestimate her. There is no reason for a demon to want to be underestimated by another demon since they don't prey on nor challenge each other and the growth of their mana is essentially just an indication of their age. A demon's position in society also has little value in itself and they don't appear to covet higher positions. They collaborate to prey on humans and decide who leads them based on mana.

@Milanin Naw, a demon would probably enjoy a flashy battle to the death. This is the ultimate indignity.

@Kireato Frieren herself was a young upstart who overtook her elders. She was the strongest of the elves in her village even as a child, so she WAS a prodigy among the elves. It is possible then for someone to have more mana from birth. The training expands mana capacity over time, but the original state of one's mana also matters. Flamme was also an example of this as she had more mana than most humans her age and even many demons much older than her. Frieren also pointed out in an earlier chapter that, with how old she was, it was impossible for any human now to ever match or surpass her, but humans can do things she couldn't (like fast-firing her mana). Presumably demons also have some variation in ability regardless of age. Aura was considered a sort of elite prodigy by her demon peers.
