pg 10 and 13 lead me to believe that he was something along the lines like a "Hero" or at least a soldier. The demon king cycle might have even been wider known if not for the muddle of time.
Fern told Kraft that she was a mage in the hero's party, but i doubt frieren would have told him. P.S. Stark didn't say no homo

@littleoni Flamme and Frierens' discussion about demon society and the way that Lugner and his team talked about Aura and their own society hints that the usual way demon kings were felled was by demons themselves. That means the Hero might be a new thing in this world, a human capable of taking down not only the demon king but the structure of demonic social elites surrounding him and forming his layered lines of defense. The magic barriers Flamme erected also hint that the way humans fought the demons previously was in a purely defensive manner. The simple fact is that in the thousand years of Frieren's life known to us there was only one Hero, yet it took only a century for demon society to reboot and have elites like Aura already vying for the top job. Similarly, not even Flamme knew about Soul Track and how to deal with it, yet it took less than a century for humans to not only copy, improve, and counter it but also turn it mundane. So something is changing at a very rapid pace starting from Himmel's expedition. This hints that Himmel the Hero and Frieren the Slayer were new things the world hadn't really seen before.

Considering that Frieren looks like she barely aged in like 1000 years, I wonder how long elves can live... And how old this guy was...

His name is actually Mein, but due to a dialect he said it as monk, so his name is Mein Kraft

"She was in the Hero's party."
'And before that?'

I really, really liked that line. Humans live with the concept that they'll probably do one great thing in their life. For elves, even something like that is just a note in a long, long story.

I think it's not actually mundane. Frieren calls it ordinary attack magic but I believe Lugner mentions something about Frieren teaching her student Soul Track as normal attack magic.
The implication being that it isn't ordinary attack magic but that Frieren tought Fern one of the most OP spells known for demon killing and called it ordinary. I don't think anyone else has mentioned it either way other than Frieren so it's entirely possible that this is just a quirk of Frieren's calling it ordinary attack magic when it's not.

@Alleycat Fern wasn't originally trained by Frieren but by Heiter and whoever was running magic school near the orphanage. She also has a formal mage certificate, which means Frieren isn't her only master nor the only other mage she knows. Her knowledge of how to use and defend against standard offensive magic was not something Frieren taught her either. She already knew this to be standard technique when Frieren first brought it up with her after giving her a book about the history of Soul Track that she didn't actually read. So I think your understanding of this situation is backwards. It isn't that Frieren is calling a demon-killing magic just normal attack magic. Rather, she had driven the original research done by the humans into a direction she specifically wanted, turning Soul Track into a specialized demon-killing magic. In short, unbeknownst to most demons (and probably most humans as well), Frieren had secretly turned EVERY SINGLE MAGE in the current era into a demonslayer like herself. This is why I think Himmel and Frieren's appearance marked a sudden change in the world. The balance has actually been tipped overwhelmingly towards the humans' side, it's just that neither side had realized this yet.

@Spinaple long enough that all memories have been swept away by the sands of time. That being said it can take as little as a millennium for things to be long lost from memory, take the Mayan cities of stone. We know they're there but as of yet not a soul, not even those who lived in their few remaining cities in 1500's, has left a record as to what brought the downfall of their empire.

"@Xitel That's not how it went down at ALL. I was toguether with Alexander drinking beer and eating pussy in Valhalla when some Chinese warlord comes screaming through the door saying that Chingis was solo'ing the entire Yinchuan guard. We started watching and betting what would happen, and I fuck you not, he kills 50 guys and makes the emperor himself surrender.
But after that when he got on his horse, his balls were so big and heavy that the horse fucking died and he broke his neck.

This chapter is just so bittersweet... wonder how the groups journey will end, and what will happen to Frieren afterwards

Maybe i'm wrong, BUT Fern has never been to the orphanage, just picked and raised by Heiter, she was never been in magic school, and finally, she get get certificate straight before departure with Freiren, meaning, she just go there - pass the examination - go adventuring.
Can Heiter be her first teavy is subjectable cuz he is priest, not mage, so he only can talk her basics(that known by everyone) and provide environment and books (also, maybe, magic staff). @sssr
