I’m not entirely sure how this particular story is not good nor what trick it’s attempting to pull.
Good point, I'm talking out of my ass.
Specifically I'm nitpicking about how that research took so long and how Fess reacted exactly as expected when we don't know him. The tricks are that good-for-nothing elf suddenly making a great inscription and tricking us to believe this was natural for Fess when it would have been natural for our beloved corrupt priest.
It's nice how it's based on a real story though, based on what other commenters said.
In conclusion, the chapter is good enough and I'm overthinking.
