After last chapter, I think that term might be true"Meet my Mother, the King of the Elves." Shouldn't that be "Queen," since "King" is referring to the male counterpart, which would change "Mother" to "Father."
I remember some Dragon related fantasy book years ago, where a female dragon campaigning for Dragon King said that King and Queen are different jobs, the ruler is the King regardless of gender/sex, the Queen was more of a First Lady or head diplomat job."Meet my Mother, the King of the Elves." Shouldn't that be "Queen," since "King" is referring to the male counterpart, which would change "Mother" to "Father."
So it is one of those societies where they demean the female gendered title as less than the male gendered title, leading to misgendering someone just because the woman baring the title has a higher position of power than their gender would be permitted otherwise. Not a comfortable stance to have with regards to titles and their relation to gendered terms.I remember some Dragon related fantasy book years ago, where a female dragon campaigning for Dragon King said that King and Queen are different jobs, the ruler is the King regardless of gender/sex, the Queen was more of a First Lady or head diplomat job.
Pretty sure that’s the standard in the western world too, at least regarding noble titles. I mean, England’s Queen Elizabeth’s husband was Prince consort Phillip, not King Phillip. So it is one of those societies where they demean the female gendered title as less than the male gendered title, leading to misgendering someone just because the woman baring the title has a higher position of power than their gender would be permitted otherwise. If it's like the story they're talking about, a wonderful parody of fairytale called Dealings with Dragons, then no, actually. The queen position seemed almost entirely unrelated to the king and was only brought up to clarify that gender was irrelevant. (Dragons were also biologically nonbinary until they picked one and that could easily take a couple hundred years)So it is one of those societies where they demean the female gendered title as less than the male gendered title, leading to misgendering someone just because the woman baring the title has a higher position of power than their gender would be permitted otherwise.
