Out of curiosity, how did Dead Octopus come into being? Is he a clone?
Because I recall for the current Octavius, his soul is currently in Japan while his physical body is in a coma back in New York.
Alright, let's do this, one last time.
Dead Ock isn't a clone, just the original corpse of Ock/Spidey. Superior Octopus here is a bit more complicated lol. Ock as Superior Spidey (Supidey) relinquishes the body back to Peter to stop the Green Goblin, realizing what it really means to be a hero, yada yada, he's dead. The first Spider-Verse crossover happens pretty soon after, and Supidey gets pulled out of time before having that revelation, discovers that Peter's going to take the body back somehow in his future (he doesn't believe that it was the right thing to do) and backs up his mind onto his gauntlets.
A few years pass, and eventually Peter's clone is making more clones of everybody. The digital mind of Supidey (now in a big robot) helps them out with this, and while doing that makes a clone using the DNA from his original body (Dead Ock here) spliced with Peter's. This is Superior Octopus (SpOck). So SpOck goes on a few more adventures and eventually has the reverse revelation while fighting a villain: he can't be part Spider-Man if he wants to beat this guy, he needs to be all Ock. So he makes a deal with Mephisto (ofc) and gets reverted to Ock classic!
Then we get to here: Ock classic brushes death at the first issue, a mind back-up thingy in Japan kicks on prematurely, separating his mind from his comatose body and into a Japanese student. Another of these back-up thingies glitches and thinks he's totally dead, so creates a new Ock from the last back-up: the SpOck we've seen in this series. And then secretly while all this has been going on, Dead Ock's brain has been juiced up to run everything Beyond.
God comics are dumb, and Furuhashi Hideyuki is a god for using every last drop.
