Well, I admit not so much today (but I wouldn't call them dense, especially now)
But whenever they visit each other house the tension is there

She's 15, he's 14.5ish. Third-year middle school. Major plot thread lately has been high school selections and entrance exams.

That and the fact that they're much more consistently interacting with the adult world than anyone here (where there's maybe some chapters with a parent or two). The walled garden effect is definitely in play.
