I wanna like this manga. I really do. The idea of the hero who saved the world being betrayed by the people he saved, reincarnating back on Earth with all of his powers intact, only to get summoned again to that world years later and learning how things have gone in that intervening time is something not a lot of stories have done (or at least among the one's I've read).

The reveal that while things seem to be going great, there's an evil plot brewing in the shadows, headed by Setsu's supposedly dead former friend and fellow hero forms a quick and interesting hook into the deeper plot of the series...but then it gets weighed down by his crew of "misunderstood misanthropic misfits" taking up unnecessary amounts of screen time and plot relevance, getting full backstories and flashbacks mid-fight that take entire chapters, only to get bodied the moment they end. And yet, everything involving Setsu's old adventure (his companions, their relationships) is quite well put together, if not the most deeply explored.

It's like...there's two manga here; everything involving the first adventure is concise and interesting. Everything involving the current adventure (excepting the new childhood friend) feels slapdash and tacked-on. But at least it was all leading up to the big confrontation with Touya, right?

But then we got this Starscream Kefka Palazzo bullshit.

I'm sticking around, if only to see where this trainwreck finally comes to a stop. But it's already jumped the rails and barreled straight through the orphanage and the paper plant, and it's seriously starting to smell.
