That's what some of the comments aren't thinking about. Well I think ichi is 100% immortal due to being immune to the chocolate weakness. The others are most likely still weak to chocolate. So they are technically immortal as long as they don't come into contact with chocolate.

Ichi got shafted in this scenario; this isn't salvation, it was a curse...He'll never realistically see them or Earth again and is now completely wiped and reset to be programmed by this new world. So close to happiness with them, only to have it brutally torn away by circumstances beyond his control.

His thoughts are in the final chapter, saying that after Eliza’s death he doesn’t have much to live for anyway.

Imo there was nowhere else for the author to go if he lacked the creativity to invent new stuff, it'd only be the gooning sesh every 2 weeks to the incredible art.
