So we have two people acting on somewhat faulty history books (because the winner wrote it—or had an effect on the one writing it—to make himself look better than he was... like instagram selfies and life posts).
In a way, this should help things go better because Wilhelm probably didn't train as hard due to his knowledge, while Rudolph is doing more than he's ever done and can one day surpass Wilhelm.
Now, on a meta level, is there a reason why the villager was sent back as Rudolph? Because if the story changes, so does the villager's fate, thus preventing the change. Assuming that much thought has gone into this story, is it perhaps that a previous reincarnator messed up the original history and thus the main character becomes Rudolph in order to re-correct the history? And Wilhelm gets a new soul from the future because the original challenger to upper management doesn't want that?
If so, who was the original reincarnator? Was it perhaps Rudolph's original personal maid? She was wielding psychology as a weapon to such a degree that she was able to force Rudolph to become king so she could rule from behind... which is probably the best a maid could do. Almost like she had knowledge a maid wouldn't normally have.
