I still dislike the 1st empress, she knew the entire time what her son was doing and only intervened after he failed to rape a duke's daughter, and only to keep him out of trouble. I'm sorry but this is kind of a too little too late kind of situation for me.

I wonder about that. Maybe the real reason as to why she acted so indifferent to her son's actions was because they were directed at Rudolph, the son of the woman she despises. Also, we don't know if Robin was a full time tyrant or if he specifically focused on Rudolph (under the influence of his mother).

The above reply makes a sound argument. On top of that, Rudolph is known as a troublemaker too, so I guess she never tried to see eye to eye for all those reasons. I wouldn't go as far as to say she is innocent or likable tho.

Also, remember the first empress asked Rudolph's opinion about his mother in chapter 10? I think that, and the conversation between Rudolph and his mother, has made a change of heart in the first empress.

I wanted to like the empress, but you do bring up a good point

He saw right through her bullshit.

I'm not too sure about the physics of a wine glass hitting a body and shrapnel continuing to fly forward, but that was good publicity if nothing else.

Yeah, I don't think we should buy that the empress cares about him at all. Even so, that doesn't mean we can't rely on her even if we can't trust her.
If she hates the hussy enough to help the MC just to spite her, then it's perfectly okay to just have a relationship where they just use each other to deal with a mutual enemy.

It's better late than never. She utterly hates Beatrice and that's why she never paid any attention to Rudolph, but after seeing that he is different she started to change her opinion. However I agree that Robin being piece of shit is entirely her fault, she divided most of her attention on more capable Fredrick and left Robin unattended

I can understand not liking her mother and so not wanting your kid to be involved with her kid, but allowing your kid to be a bully only makes them grow up as terrible people

Yes we do, reread chapter 5 or just pay even an iota of attention to how he treats his attendants

Even if she is starting to change her mind she has a long way to go before she's earned redemption at least imho

Where did the queen came from to protect him from the cup? Is she originally from chess to be appearing from the other side of the board like that?

Why did they bandage him above the hair? That just looks like a kid's mummy costume.

The Empress is at least trying to make amends even if this all might be mostly political theater and acting for her own self interest. It still means she's doing something to help the MC instead of digging down deeper the whore mom is doing.
