Shirley-chan, you made 2 big mistakes in this chapter that basically led to disaster: first, talking trash about Weiss right in front of Lilith and second, going into the forest alone. I’m pretty sure Lilith’s gonna help Shirley in the next chapter :aquadrink:

I mean, the alarm got triggered, and you go all clueless without thinking there could be a monster (or more) nearby?

Plus, you never split a party!
Right? It's a darn alarm, that's what it's supposed to do. I need way too much suspended disbelief for the things some characters pull off.

Edit: read Yaderx's answer down the tread. It makes the whole ordeal make more sense. No need for suspended disbelief in the case.

in a previous chapter, where the monsters were about to attack her but backed off because they sensed the strength of her teammate, she said that the trap expired which is why she needed to set it up again. So this may be a mistranslation where, instead of the trap detecting a monster, it just needed to be set again which is why she thought it was safe. (When in fact, resetting the detection trap after it expired means she's going in blind since monsters could be around and not detected.)

But yeah, this carelessness will get her killed.

Weiss stated she's not ready to face this challenge. Now she proved she's not ready, making such a poor decision. Looking at the logic from the reverse direction, it's not like Weiss would have tried to persuade her if she was so smart and tough nothing could happen to her. But because she's not tough and doesn't have the knack for survival in a dangerous environment, her fate was what it was in the original game as well. Even lazy game script writers wouldn't make a powerful character die a stupid death in an unlikely manner, when it looks a lot better in the game lore if the dying character was susceptible to such a fate. A mid/end boss killing a powerful friendly NPC in a manner important to the plot is totally a different thing.
