Huh. You don't say! Thanks for clarifying, as I had somehow missed that fact that this is an isekai and the entire premise of the story is that it's set in another world entirely.

Yes, I'm well aware that these are fictional characters doing fictional things, but their fictional actions are being written by an actual human being who's alive today. This story is also being read by real people with real experiences on the real Earth.

I just thought it was interesting to see the side aligned with the protagonist ("the good guys") doing deeply problematic stuff. So, from one real person to another, I think it's more than fine to note that the fictional actions in this fictional story would be considered atrocities by, as I noted, "real-world standards."

Do, there's no need to defend the fictional characters, because I'm not attacking or even criticizing them. How would I, anyway? They don't exist and never did.
And yet you felt the need to point out that people were using tactics that are highly effective in the time period just because they're banned today.

…Murder, kidnapping, and slavery may be "highly effective," but they're still murder, kidnapping, and slavery. This story was written by a real person in our real world, so that real person made the real choice to have fictional "good guys" commit fictional acts that would be heinous in our real world. It's actually possible to make note of that fact without it being meant as criticism that anyone needs to defend.
You're missing the point in that the author is choosing to portray people as morally gray - good people can do bad things, obviously...

And frankly, you're being disingenuous by portraying me as "defending" anything, I'm merely trying to confirm why you're bothering to point it out? It's a work of fiction about fictional people, written by someone who's exercising their creativity as they see fit.

Actually, you know what? This is not even remotely worth either my time or my emotional engagement. You win, kid. I'll stop my mean bullying of the poor little manga characters that I never even attacked in the first place, so you get to be the big hero or whatever it is you think you're doing here.

Bye!
Lol, couldn't refute what I said and refused to address my second point, painted a strawman, and ran away.

Bye, kiddo.

EDIT: LOL, deleted all posts too.

Ooo. Things have gotten extremely spicy. I was not expecting this. Zirconia has done some incredibly evil things to innocent villagers, in service to her goal of revenge. We've heard her say that she'll be the villainess. And now we know why. Its so rare that we get a story where the side from the main protagonist's perspective, aren't mostly good. What Zirconia and her men did, was evil and highly effective. It was cowardly too.

In previous chapters, I was speculating that there must be some 3rd party pretending to be bandits and attacking Arcadia and Valvert, in order to start a war. But now, after what we've learned, I have a seed of doubt that maybe Arcadia is up to its old tricks. It also makes me wonder who knew about this operation and signed off on it.

When and if Kazura finds out what Arcadia has done, how will he react?

It makes the plot and character development so much more complex and interesting. Everyone wants to believe that their enemy is pure evil and their side is pure good. Patriotism plays a large role in whipping up people's fervor for battle. Information control is also huge. Arcadia has to keep secret what they did, so they don't lose the trust and support of the citizenry. It's in the interest of all governments to hide their evil deeds.
