The "I will come to pick you up." line is synonymous with death like come on. You might as well keep two coins for the ferryman one to pick you up and another to drop you off.
Jokes aside I love the fog of war being used with lady death telling the MC "Hey I know I shouldn't ask you this, but this time is different can you protect the people in the village? War is coming without a doubt and nobody can stop it, but if you can save all the people you care about as well the village. In exchange when you're time has come I will personally come to pick you up and take you."
If this was me god would I be terrified and just cut the bullshit and get straight to the point. With asking the question "Are you lady death...is it my time to go?"
