okay, this feels like a real asspull of a conflict.

Zi Yun, she goes to school like everyone else. She gets to associate with whoever she likes (I don't remember seeing any guards, or anyone stopping her from talking to people), she even went on adventures to do some treasure hunting on her own. Sure, she gets treated like some unattainable goddess, but there was never any indication that this was forced upon anyone. as far as I can tell she gets a lot more freedom than other sheltered noble girls.

Then you take some kid in to your home, because he's been pissing the wrong people off. This kids response to your hospitality and keeping him and his sister safe, is to sneak around and effectively break in to your private grounds. He then peeps on your young daughter, and starts removing his clothes. Because he's her "friend". He then starts to fight you when you rightly beat down the hiding intruder, because you've somehow been ignoring her feelings.

nah, fuck him. If he wanted to see her he could've just talked to guards, servants, anyone, and arranged it. then maybe we'd get a little understanding of how she's sheltered rather than our MC just declaring it. This was all in service of giving him an excuse to come to her rescue again and set up another challenger.

writing has been great up until that point.

@tuhjik you know, you're absolutely right, but I think Nie Li is used to getting what he wants, being a former pinnacle being and all.
I didn't doubt his words about Ziyun' circumstances before, but now that you mention it, she really has been free to do what she wants pretty much. Nie Li's still right about daddy neglecting his daughter though.

@tuhjik @DonGiovanni Children who are seemingly free to do whatever they want and aren't lacking for money/necessities, but are in fact lacking love and limits set by the parents, very easily turn emotionally damaged, bullies, delinquents, and such. With younger children they pull off stupid shit to get their parents' attention. Since training is Ziyun's only connection to her father, she cares for nothing but cultivating, just like Nie Li said many chapters ago.

Who knows, if Nie Li hadn't been sneaking around and getting caught, it's possible he wouldn't have had the chance to give the city lord this lecture.

I get that he ends up marrying her in his last life but he has a bad tendency of coming on TOO. FUCKIN! Strong!
This just feels like a poor excuse to have the MC play Hero

@tuhjik there was a little set up for her being lonely, like when he said she could ask her father about the inscription and she got weird because her dad doesn't talk to her. you're right that it wasn't set up that much though, but nie lie is from the future and was in a relationship with her, he would know even if it wasn't properly shown to us. also this is the type of story where the MC is the best and knows everything lol, so if he says she is.. it means she is, which you can see later on as well since she outright says it.

plus his issue was more that her dad was not letting him explain, not that her dad was totally in the wrong. the dad made a situation where his only option was complete submission which he obviously isn't going to do. this isnt a japanese manga where MC's think submitting and apologizing makes you cool, the fact that he didn't somehow beat her dad and break his arm or something already puts this above most similar chinese works. lol

@botodopo @0takuDragonSlayer Shes not even worth any of this in the first place. What has she done besides breathe to deserve the MC and his unending kindness to everyone including her? Fuck diddly all. So many manga put women up on pedestals like all they have to do is exist and look pretty and they deserve a god of a man. Tired of the bullshit. Any dude with brain would've chosen the ginger haired girl by now as she's reciprocated and appreciated the mc and declared her love. She fought her family for him in that meeting and said she'd die fighting anyone there who tried to hurt him. I could list all the things ginger Phoenix girl has done in bullet points yet can't come up with any decent one for purple hair entitled "you must be legend tier to deserve my love" wet towel.

Mc is obsessed with a girl that doesn't exist anymore because she's in the past, formed from a life path that no longer exists anymore thanks to the butterfly effect and his massive changes.

I pray to fuckin GOD that shit is intentional and part of an arc where he gets over his now dead love interest. This isn’t event limited to just manga. American TV shows have done this shit for YEARS and I’m fuckin SICK OF IT!

It’s just like you said. Xiao Ning'er puts in so much more effort and it’s just SAD that we gotta watch a guy ignore yet another solid girl in favor of chasing after a fantasy
