I think it's a holdover of prevalent Puritan mindsets and ideals being baked into various societies over the last couple centuries.

The idea that "purity/chaste-ness is the ideal" has become the subconscious default for a ton of the population of various societies, and gets taught to children who internalize the idea and perpetuate it as they confront adolescence and puberty and hormones.

And it's actually super problematic because it's very entwined with misogyny and discrimination toward women specifically, on top of just being....well, not the end-all be-all of how relationships "should" be based.

There's an argument to be made about health concerns of people with large numbers of partners and whether everyone is mindful of not spreading disease and whatnot, but that can be addressed with better sex education during adolescence and making the use of contraception both widely available and easily accessable, and erasing the stigma behind asking for it no matter your age or gender.

Essentially, it's a huge systemic problem baked into society at large from generations of religious-based enforced ideals (and other sources, to be fair), and sadly it's likely not going anywhere anytime soon.

Well, same artist anyway. The writer actually did Yakuza Parasite - one of the many unfortunate victims of the DMCA strike a few months back - prior to starting this, and seems to have helped with the Dead Mount Death Play spinoff.
