In my eyes a scythe is an impractical weapon, because it only has one side that cuts and that side is still inverted

The scythe was never intended to be a weapon. It was original given to depictions of death, as a means to metaphorically "Reap" souls, reap being a synonymy for harvesting grain.

Edgelords took it as a sign of the truest edge. Since they can be dark and mysterious, like the Reaper.

No one would use a scythe in actual combat.
Unless you're a Japanese farmer (Ninja) fighting the feudal lords of Yore.

EDIT: Upon further viewing of THE INTERNET. You can find The War Scythe. But it's more of a polearm than a sickle...

I won't be so adamant ; after all, War Scythe and Naginata are basicly scythes designed for fighting…

Yes, I said this in my edit. All the weapons/tools in Scythe's category seem to be curved blades on staves. But ultimately we are referring to the Sickle here.

I think it's along the lines of Band-aid not being the true name of Adhesive Medical Strips, but we call them Band-aids anyways.

@Vasqueztion I just don't care much for practicality in fantasy, in my opinion, the only thing that matters is the consistency of the internal logic in each work.

Have you ever considered how boring things would be if every creation was run through a filter of practicality? Do you want every fantasy fight to be based on a LARP duel?

There seems to be an increasing number of people who feel the same way as you do, so this may be an inevitable change the industry goes through, I just don't like what the extremes of that preference imply.

There's no stopping what has been given a foot hold. Sickles are here to stay.

But it's a two way street, to accept the inanity that is the sickle as a plausible weapon is to accept more ludicrous things. The "Magic Bus" from Shiro no Koukoku Monogatari comes to mind as an example. I remember that being a big deal(breaker) to a lot of people before the comment section switch.

I, myself, am in no way swayed one way or another. I've used them in art and game, as well as continue to believe they are silly in the form of weaponry.
But, if you want my opinion on the matter of industry change:

If you can make it sound/look good, you can use a wet noodle as a weapon for all I care.

@Vasqueztion I just want unrestrained creativity. Quality control and industry standards are a natural result of supply and demand.

That one about the white dragon kingdom/harem is horrible, it's internal logic has no consistency, every chapter some random shit is thrown in like it had been there from the beginning(jetpacks, giant robots, and the last chapter had a hot spring with massage chairs, ping pong, and arcade games....), it's retarded, and the fact that it got the okay to be adapted, and people actually bought enough volumes for it to continue this long is just sad.

In my opinion, a good example of consistent internal logic and impractical weapons and armor would be the Nasuverse.

My position is the same.

The assassin was as tenacious as the bandits in Elder Scrolls: Mere death can't stop them from finishing their insult/threat.

i think the scythe that our mc is using is double edged... and i think the only problem with scythe is the poll/handle... the position of the blade and poll/handle makes it so the blade have penetrating power but still hard to use...
