All four of them were under the begining effects of the Seven Deadly Sins curses from the start of the series, as they're a trial engrained in the Legendary weapons that must be overcome in order to unlock their full power.

I couldn't blame you, we've tried to keep it vague just like how the LN explains it 2 vols later.
We thought "ability" "power" and "level" were enough hints tho 😂
