I agree with you. In my case, I like tsundere characters that dont get physical(like, really hitting the person they like strongly, not as a joke) and mostly they act like, their actions and words contradict themselves more explicity and in a healthy way.
What I mean is the girl(or boy, I'm using girl because characters I read are mostly girls) speak a little harshly but anyone can feel the concern and care at same times, in the actions of the girl, she helps him in times of need, and the harsh is more kind of a banter between friends/lovers. Because, what use does it have to shit on the guy and show that you like him when he's not looking? The guy will only get that the girl hates him, and for some goddamnet reason everyone else in those mangas is against the guy because they know she likes him. But how the fuck should he know? And also, if she's only treat him badly, how dare she think she deserves the guy she's using as a freaking punching bag just because of the excuse that she's doing this because she likes him?
Tsundere are characters that should have the tsun being a kind of stubborness of showing their love but when they show the dere it shows that they really love the partner.
This toxic "tsundere"(because its not really tsundere) we are talking is more like making a person hungry for days to make the next meal more delicious. Its like you said, the emotional manipulation, making something that is not even that good look good because the bottom line is too low. I really hate this kind of relationship


Also its a unrelated matter(actually not really, I feel like these toxic tsunderes are actually yanderes) but since I'm talking about toxic behavior I want to rant about how I hate yanderes(even more in harem mangas). If a yandere is likeable it means she's not yandere enough. Most of the case I feel like they dont love the character. They put themselves most of the time instead of showing true care about the person they "like". They don't give a fuck about throwing the protagonist plans in the trash for their own, in harem mangas they spend most of their time barking at other girls like mad dogs instead of trying to get some romance with the protagonist. And also all that 'he cannot speak to other girls even if they arent love interests just because they are girls'. People love to complain about male characters that treat women as objects but yanderes are just the same, they treat the guy as an object they own and nobody else can get closer. And what pisses me off is because I'm freaking sure that yanderes are the characters that are the darlings from authors and readers, the characters most forgiven for all the shit they do. Protagonists get screwed all the time by yanderes but just shrug this off.
Well, there are exceptions, mostly in wholesome mangas that have no other love interest or reason to fuck up with the protagonists schedule.

Sorry about the size of the comment and about the rant of yanderes, but I wanted to take this off my chest because I feel like every 5 harem novels 4 probably have this crap
