I read somewhere that it was totally axed, as the OG novel was also axed after 1 volume, so this story in totality has no continuation from any angle.
I.E: It's really not worth feeling anything for these characters, when we're not going to see this going anywhere.
Shame.
Nope?

I do believe this chapter had some importance. It showed the perspective from the womans side on how this works for the "less fortunate nobles" and why the Monkey squad is loyal to Valerie at all.
If it was done well is another matter but personally I enjoyed the chapter.

The Author who has stuck in the lane they choose for 6 volumes? Yes, the hook was made, but this is essentially still volume 1 for the LN. The story bounces between Fausts difficulties with romance and having a wife, his warrior prowess, and the political connections of a feudal society. Particularly his own in what is the HRE by any other name, in what is effectively the 1300s Europe.

You can choose not to like the direction of the story. That is perfectly normal. But this is a very purposeful death for the two major characters it effects. Zabine and the Princess. None of the other guards really matter as much. Yes, you can track personality traits onto a few of them, but their importance is negligible.

That being said, the Manga sure did draw out and change the events here.
"Draw out"? That's an understatement . We've seen way more of those random cannon fodder girls than the MC itself. 80% of the manga so far is this sidequest with this characters that you barely know and they write it as if you should give a fuck about any of those deaths. Why don't they established the MC first then expanded to other characters, then expand on the lore. Someone posted this and I agree: It feels like this arch should be released in chapter 50/60 something. That's not how you use the first chapters of a story

Yeah, exactly. If it was a more subtle thing it would be quite cool but not the main scheinwerfer (idk how to say this shit in english)

I do enjoy it.

I will say that the manga is doing some weirdly changed story beats? Like nothing particularly drastic as of now compared to the WN and LN, but Helga getting injured didn't happen. If you've enjoyed the characterization, that isn't different either. Hannah's death isn't as wrung out in the LN. The official translation has an odd name translation for the second princess that still bothers me more than it should.

From checking ahead I'm not sure what is up with the conversation Duke Astarte is having, because it seems way more hostile than it comes across in the LN, but I guess it is fine? Probably to fill in the prior information from a scene we really didn't get. Just is really disjointed.

. . . We all can be misinformed, I've certainly misspoke of something I've read. But checking how many volumes are out isn't particularly hard to do. I wasn't being particularly grumpy either. I was mostly flabbergasted that someone would say something so easily checked or was trolling for a reaction. It probably wouldn't have evoked such a reaction if I wasn't rather enjoying the story in the WN/LN as well.
Where to read the novel please

Shame.

Status in COO

269 Chapters (Ongoing)
6 LN Volumes (Ongoing)

That's for the novel. While not the most reliable, 'Dex has it as "Ongoing." Beware of faux second hand sources.

As far as I recall, something indeed was not updated for a while behind the scenes, can't recall which, it seems.
That was just this manga that wasn't updated for a while, because the artist went on strike for a year.

The WN is on Zetro, but those are a bit rough.

The LN is officially translated into English, but if you sail the seas you should find all 3 of the translated novels. I really can't say more.

And by drawn out, I do mean this bit with Hannah. Yes, the LN did add to it from the WN, but it was needed. It was only about half the chapter. We are at the end of chapter 16 in the LN, chapter 18 is Faust returning to the castle. The arc is fine, the pacing for the arc here is not.

Faust is often not the viewpoint of chapters in the novels. Sure, he is often on the minds of the characters, and his actions are generally bandied about. The second princess is the viewpoint we get the second most often. Zabine is probably third, though the rest of the Anhalt royal family and a character we haven't met yet gets quite a few.

People would be less vocal if we were given chapters at a much higher rate. It feels like it is taking forever because the release between chapters is awful. I'm a fan of the WN and LN, the translation from novel to manga has been rough.

I'm still not sure exactly why the mangaka has changed what they have.

There's going to be a lot of growing pains for readers as they adjust to Faust not being the focal point 100% of the time. He's really not even the most interesting character.

I definitely missed this before it got nuked, really good chapter. I think this arc probably works better in one go, rereading the whole series it's a nice descent from pretty careless fun to everything going to pieces. Kinda interesting since MC is functionally unstoppable but he is just one guy.
I think that's what I like most about this manga. It really highlights that last part. Sure, bro can maul an army faster than we can blink, but what happens when he simply can't be there? Easy, people we didn't know we cared about die. Shits very sad.

So, you mean that the character tha gives the name to the series and literally sells the concept of the story is not the focal point of the story and the author spends more time on side characters?

From reading all the discussions here, I've come to a conclusion—for all the things they've retooled from the source material, they really should've changed the first chapter as well. Change the POV, or change the tone—don't let our Guts ripoff get the main billing, unless to show juxtaposition for the joke. The original premise, even if its gone serious, would've at most needed a 60/40 split for the story focus, with the 60 being the male lead's POV.

In the end, it could've been better, but it is what it is.
