My ex and I amicably broke up about a year and a half ago. We had two cats that she had to re-home afterwards so she found a nice older couple to take care of them. Well, yesterday I got a call from the cities animal control department that one of my old cats was found at a bus-stop in a carrier.
This was greatly concerning because:
- They left their cat at a fucking bus stop.
- The chips were never updated with their contact information, even after a year and a half of ownership. Quite irresponsible of them.
- It's been two days and they haven't contacted animal control looking for their cat and one of them was WFH at the time of adoption.
- They have a vehicle they could have used to go to the vet; although, there are many good reasons for not using it.
- This cat is VERY talkative. If they're hungry or bored they'll be sure to let you know, multiple times, at all times.
- They left their cat at a fucking bus stop.
Of course it is still a possibility that they simply forgot him there on the way back from the vet, but one them had a work from home job and they STILL haven't called animal control in the two days since he was found. I would be scared shitless if I forgot my cat at a bus stop; animal control would be the first place I would call after I rushed back to the bus stop and he wasn't there anymore.
This cat has a best friend; they're a bonded pair. The condition my ex gave them was that they would never be separated; however, I think what happened was that they fell in love with the one cat, and became increasingly annoyed by the other to the point that the pieces of shit made the conscious decision to abandon their cat at a bus stop.
Animal control has an approximate two week holding period to give owners a chance to pick them up before they're put up for adoption. So now I'm planning to sign a lease for a new apartment that allows cats and try to make ends meet while I go to school. I have a relatively light course load this year, so that's one good thing. I'm also still friends/acquaintances with my ex, so she can keep them for a short time while I get a home ready for them.
I truly hope they didn't abandon my old cat at bus stop, but it's looking like that's exactly what happened as each day goes by.
Fuckers.

*They found the other cat in park. She was sick, and had to be put down. I don't know what to think right now, but I am full of hate and rage.
