If it's just the church I can see this wrapping up in a couple of arcs maybe, but if it's the latter this will probably get much bigger. Lol

Mmh....so the 13 gods/blessed ones (now we know they are fake gods) are what the church is founded on/ founded the church? And they keep this man froze in time so he can't create anymore fake gods? And killing the witch/es who is/are "blessed" by the true god must disappear, so to cement the church power?

Well, whatever it is....a church going power hungry and evil is not a new concept...if I had 1 $/€/£ for every time this trope is used, I'd have a decent sum...

It's repeatedly used because it's repeatedly happening in real history.
Every single religion that I know of, had at least one example of corruption at some point in time. From Christianity to Taoism to Buddhism, if humanity is involved, it'll be corrupted at some point.
And sadly, a lot of the time the average person is either ignorant or choose to turn a blind eye to it.

I think what happened is that the Saint created the thirteen gods, and a cult formed around them. That cult realised that the blessings they got from the thirteen gods were tied to the existence of the thirteen gods, which was dependent on the Saint being alive. So they extended his life by freezing him in time.

Later on another person likely got the same power as the Saint, created more gods, and the people blessed by these gods were opposed to the church. The church defeated them and sealed "The Witch", the person who created the additional gods. They then branded the gods created by the Witch as evil gods and branded the creator god as an evil god too, in order to avoid another person with the same blessing as the Saint and the Witch to appear.

But that's just speculation.

Well that's some twist. So the gods of the church are "fake" and they're the creations of this guy power. It opens a lot of speculation, but I guess the church wants to keep a tight control over the blessings and that's why they're using this guy frozen in carbonite so they can control everything. And the ones that fall into the cracks and get a different blessing are shipped to the island because they can't be killed directly or something like that...

Well, we will see how it develops.

As for how risky it is, no clue and i don't think he knows either. killing mc's sister might be enough to kill the witch but the pope only has written records from centuries ago, so the witch might be way stronger than he thinks

So clearly the truth is not everybody is blessed by the gods. So when this guy was blessed, they made a religion around him and claimed he was the true god and the others were only those he created. Then they forced him to sleep so they can maintain the power by using someone with a special power that probably weakens him.

The true apostles of gods were forgotten and instead treated as witches probably because they were blessed to accomplish something great which is destroy the false church and bring the world back to its proper order.

Or so I'm guessing.

The church has been keeping him alive, because the blessings granted by the gods Arthur created, would die with him. That in turn would save Rukia, who would no longer be a blessing nuke.
