I thought there would be a punchline because of the snake skin and komugi's fear of snakes.

I was thinking the same, but I was also thinking it would be weird to get scared by something that kinda looks like a wallet even if you knew it was snake skin. It may make some feel uncomfortable knowing what it is, maybe get creeped out by its feel, but I doubt many people scared of snakes would be scared by that rectangle of skin. Although I suppose if they touched it without seeing it they may freak out, now that I think of it.

That's a good point. Few people would be fearful of a crocodile leather wallet even though being, at the very least, wary of crocodiles is an idea generally conducive to continued, unmaimed survival.
