He really shouldn't blame himself for that girl. Life is shit. It's the truth. He was honest with her and she just killed herself. Doesn't make much sense... since she just joined and barely knew him. That pro gamer guy? Sounds good. But later in life... he'll be poor since his skills will rust with time... while mc will continue to get promoted. I would rather live a life like MC than to be struggling to pay the bills and being in debt just to buy daily food expenses or hobbies or whatever.

Wouldn't the level of assault he suffered as a kid involve the police? I'm having a really hard time believing violent assaults are so common in Japan and police so indifferent that like five guys beating up two different kids to that extent wouldn't lead to some sort of investigation.

Also, MC is only mid 40s, which means, at the earliest, he was born in the early 80s. Even if he stopped going to the arcade in his early teens—early 90s—if he really loved the games, he could have played at home; sure, maybe not on home console, but ZSNES was released in 1997 and had netplay via TCP/IP and UDP up to v1.50 according to Wikipedia, and SNES9x started releasing versions in 1998, so he could have done his normal life and done competitive play from the comfort of his own home by finding opponents via BBS and Usenet groups.He really shouldn't blame himself for that girl.
