I'm curious as to how that secret organization/sect hadn't already conquered the whole world, seeing how powerful they seem to be. Based on all we know so far, they should have more than enough to wipe the whole world out a dozen times over, and should've already finished it long before our MC showed up, so why haven't they? Why do all these villain sects bent on world domination and/or destruction always keep on waiting, never actually going for it? Because apparently, if you wait long enough, you will end up getting wiped out. So, I don't know, maybe don't wait that long and instead move along with the plan?

@Siikalahna Since they failed once before they didnt want to take chances, save money, have excellent security, get people into different towns, setup all bases to self destruct and take out anyone nearby and suicide if caught. That device they had containing that magic likely isnt something that can be moved. How would they ever bring something like that to every city and set them all off together? With their magic cursed stones, destroying the forest and nearby places seems like a decent step towards their plans. Its only now that they happened to start everything since they thought they were ready as well. As hallo mentioned, the MC may have been brought there at this time to specifically deal with this.

Tell them about you having documents with disappearing letters and ask if they have a way to prevent it when you take them out of storage.
Don't be a f*cking id*ot and keep it secret cause you are too d*mb to understand the situation.

Please, author, don't continue your story with the method "MC is too d*mb to refer the important info to the people in charge of dealing with these criminal groups".
This type of approach to keep the story going is so lame as it is old and overused!

@silkalahna It takes more than raw power to take over the world. When you conquer a region you need a sizable force to occupy it and enforce your will upon them. From what I've seen the secret society has ridiculously powerful magic/tach but they lack the manpower to hold what ever they take.

@Talh I agree, though its possible he doesnt want to reveal it to small town locals who now also seem to have at least one person involved, THAT said, the list of assassination targets can also likely double as a list of people he can trust. Id somewhat expect its a setup and that the names are actually members, that this is an attempt to catch someone who steals documents and kill them, but his name is on the list too...
