One of my favourite story, but im hating how the studio is releasing only 13 pages each month. I think its mostly cause they dont wanna go too far in the future than the anime that will release in 2026, but still its ruining it for the manga readers

I'm thinking... some MP-cheap skill that absorbs the HP of anything if you deal the killing blow? So effectively useless unless the target it something with no defense but full HP... like say, an unarmoured civilian.

My guess is that he's trying to rally the people against the dragon. The soldiers from before seemed hesitant to attack after his betrayal was revealed, so if he convinces people that 'the dragon' killed a bunch of innocents, he'll have more bodies to throw around.

He's still using that cursed sword, so maybe he's planning to inflict a bunch of curses on the people around him, like berserk, and then run in the chaos again.

It's pretty nobody else in that city is trying to do anything about this series. The guards already know the so called hero is not on their side. It wouldn't anymore be that difficult for anyone half competent to ambush the half dead hero. The bastard is concentrating on nothing but the dragon chasing him, so it wouldn't be so difficult. But alas, in that city controlled by an evil ruler and eviler religion, there simply isn't anyone around who wouldn't only be thinking of their own skin.
