If it helps making you feel better at all (or taking your mind a little bit away from reality), the evil magician was quite proud and direct of his “evil” traits and the evil god he worships here. In the RPG sense, it has less of the negative connotation and more of an aspect/alignment (or element, as another commenter has pointed out above).

Indeed, and thank you. What really got me was them identifying him as being an Evil "race", because that has ancient echoes of what I consider truly Evil. 😅

This series is actually distinctive. There is regulars mana/energy, and both evil and divine. You basically switch which energy your using to power the skills, so its more like a evil variant of the base skills, it both buffs the skills over regular mana, and adds a corrosive and magic disrupting effect.
I saw someone compare it to a element, and that's not really a good comparison here. Think of it as a meta magic addition to spells, or in non dnd terms a optional spell boost.

That is a skill that shows up later, it sense evil energy, which in this series is the evil gods mana, that she gifts followers.

alot of this chapter dialogue is manga only as none of this is talked about until several volumes after this one. Hades we dont find out about the divine punishment until like volume 6-7 and this is volume 4 content.
