To begin with, war happens because of conflict between two nations treasuring its own respective 'justice' and fighting for its own perceived 'evil' and the 'unjust'. In addition, the victor gets to write the history and determine the future. This is true even in our world.

The US believes that communism or socialism is a recipe for disaster. At the same time, China and Russia believes it's the right way to live. Both have their own respective 'right' and 'wrong' principles.

The so-called ISIS = terrorists fight for their 'right' cause: to spread the true Islam based on the Quran. Many people from around the world deem that as 'wrong' thus war breaks even to this very second.

If there is ever to be one universal truth, only an entity called "God" can list what is 'right' and what is 'wrong'. However, even the idea of "God" itself is constantly challenged by non-believers.

It really gets deep, but the short simple answer is war is just a manifestation of conflict between two entities beyond what one would normally call a 'fight'.

That last scene, "God was surprisingly child-like", was such a beautiful cene in and of itself, but considering it also served as a foreshadow to rimuru's godlike existence towards the end of the novel makes it that much more incredible.
