Yeah same. There just isnt enough time to build a relationship with the characters for me as a reader when the story moves so fast.
Irena always glazed him from the start, sure. But even the other dude? MC has literally done nothing, he talked with a spriti once, thats it.
Also thought this was pretty convoluted, why must he leave? Nobody knows he did it.

I'd say it wasn't until after Kaeha that he realized how his relationships with others would affect them considering his lifespan. Her mother was certainly right that he left a "curse" on Kaeha even if unintentionally, and after we see that he's learned to understand his impact on others better.
