Not all the other hermits are a problem, the only reason he had a bad feeling when he met the dragon and cat hermits was due to the feeling of Deja Vu from his experience with Lei Hong and the fact that they kept just dragging him around instead of just telling him what was going on.

The only other hermits besides the three different heretical ones that are a problem at all seem to be the sprites due to their malevolence. We also haven't met any natural human hermits (unless the 4 hermits we just met count) a titan, etc. in the story.

Also, I absolutely love that, while the hermits are still individually way more powerful than him, he's still the only one who can just chill with a True Dragon without even worrying about it. It's a good way to justify why him being a high elf is so important beyond living a couple centuries more than regular elves.

basically its rooted in chinese mysticism, The 3 hermits we see here basically take in nature energy to extend their lifespan so its pure and clean while hermits who extend their lifespan by stealing other's lifespan are filthy and are called shaman

but they did. this whole setup where the hermits absorb and distribute and manage the four beasts powers was not a one sided deal. that is the big difference. the heretical side of hermits is parasitic in nature it only benefits the hermits. the setup these hermits have is mutual in nature an agreement.

they have explained this several times now. there are two sides to hermetical arts: the natural and the heretical.
the Natural is benign in nature and does no harm but it is extraordinarily difficult to achieve. because of its extreme difficulty to do it the RIGHT way many hermits will take the short cut into the heretical territory of stealing the lifeforce of others against their will to achieve semi immortality. they are not truly immortal as they still require the lifeforce of others to replenish their own.

in conclusion because natural hermitry is akin to a symbiotic coexistence with nature and heretical hermitry is parasitical in nature, the side that the 5 hermits fall into is the natural as they coexist with, rather than prey on, the power they absorb.
