See this is what I was wondering if they just stack up all the barriers and cover the whole country then can't they just push the spirits or w.e into the ocean basically killing them all? either way like we all know some Royals wont like this new info on barriers and will try to silence them as usual

I stopped reading this for a while because I annoyed that they got separated.
Now that she's back with her family, I want to pick it up again.

Pretty much the entirety of volume 8 is the traveling to meet the family. At the end of it, they meet up with the father.

i wonder if you could periodically "nuke" areas to clear hollows instead of keeping the city barriers up?

I'm still rereading. But it seems like the barrier can only repel the hollows

I assume that people of the other families can't resonate, or at least it would be harder for them. I think Lia's family can do it, because they copied each others barriers, but the members of the other families can't observe mana and will as such struggle to make a barrier that resonates.
The central barrier is probably a five person barrier made up of five slates that create barriers that resonate with each other when fueled by the correct mana frequencies and the natural mana frequencies of family members are likely similar enough that the battery stones can be tuned to a families frequency.
